The U.S. Army's Top Secret Arctic City Under the Ice! DECLASSIFIED FILM.

Full disclosure: President Trump’s recent foible over purchasing Greenland, along with much discussion in “The Attic” over global warming, prompted me to do a bit of research on Greenland, and I came upon this fascinating film. It is 32 minutes long, but well worth watching.

I have worked in the Arctic during winter and can appreciate the difficulties and hazards of working under such conditions. This film shows that with careful planning, attention to detail and perseverance humans can achieve remarkable goals.

The U.S. Army's Top Secret Arctic City Under the Ice! "Camp Century" Restored Classified Film - In the late 1950s, during the height of the Cold War, the US military constructed a secret base in the Arctic for "research" purposes. Some theorists claim that it was actually used as a covert nuclear weapons storage &/or testing facility as part of Top Secret "Project Iceworm" with the ultimate objective of covertly placing medium-range missiles under the ice sheet -- close enough to strike the Soviet Union, while remaining hidden from the Danish government. Others have made even grander claims - that Camp Century was actually a weather manipulation experiment ... or a U.S. Military administered Alien / UFO base! The whole truth may never be known. This video is the actual declassified US ARMY FILM documenting the construction process. What really happened there afterwards remains a mystery.
Very interesting but rather lengthy - the organizing of such a project must be precise and enduring. I wonder if the place is still active today.

I found the link on Wikipedia, but that page has very little information other than to express concern over cleanup of the radioactive, chemical and sewage wastes that may become an issue at some time. Another Wiki page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Iceworm says Camp Century was a publicized cover project for Project Iceworm. It appears that pliability of the ice and lack of longterm stability led to abandonment of the efforts, but there was some scientific benefit from the project(s).
Amazing project! Wonder what has become of the base today?

Yes, and I expect the same situation if we try to move out in space......
If I'm not mistaken, 60 Minutes may have done a news story on this. As I recall, the ice would reclaim the tunnels that were dug and it was impossible to maintain.
The Navy has many moving bases under the Arctic. They call them submarines.

I loved the 'personnel protection equipment' White painted cap. booties and shirtsleeves. Plus mandatory cigarettes.
It predates the concerns about global freezing when we were searching for ways to grow food under artificial lighting....plus build cities underground.
As part of NATO I wonder how many servicemen were 'Arctic Trained' from there?
I suppose it became redundant when submarines were able to circumnavigate the Arctic ice cap and 'pop up' as and when required.
Thanks for sharing

Full disclosure: President Trump’s recent foible o... (
show quote)
Then why bring up negative comments on the President in your forward.
Totally unneccessary and highly politically charged with the bashing of the President.
So you made this political from the beginning.
The President was not the first president to suggest that the USA acquire Greenland and some were democrat.
In fact it was a brilliant suggestion that if dumb a...a obummer had suggested it you would be having orgasams about it.
Thanks this was very interesting
Thank you for that, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
