You are out of focus. Perhaps you should use a 500mm mirror lens and keep it to a high ISO as possible with a long shutter speed and a wide f/stop. You should also use a tripod, not monopod and keep it on manual focus. When you use a tiny aperature, rounded objects like planets become hexagonal like stop signs.
Otherwise this is a great attempt that should be applauded!
Hey Scruples. The P1000 does not have the interchangeable lens. It goes all the way out to 3000 mm all on its lonesome. Look up some of the pictures of the camera with the lens extended. A real beast.
