Following up on my previous request for advice, on my upcoming Morocco trip I have a choice of taking a Sigma 1.4 Art or a Canon 16-35 f4 in addition to my Tamron 24-70. I use a Canon 5 D mk iv. We will be shooting indoors, street and landscape so I am inclined to take the faster lens, but would appreciate some recommendations based on previous experiece with these glasses. Thanks

With respect and hoping I didn't miss it in your post, you are taking a Sigma 1.4 Art WHAT? Yes I know a lens but is it probably a 50mm, maybe a 35mm? If it is a 35 or a 50 I would take it for the indoor shots. but you will do pretty well taking only the 24-70 IF it is an f2.8. I have travelled in Europe and only took my Nikon D800 and a 24-85 f3.5 lens. If inside I simply turned up the ISO to where I could take good hand held photos without flash which is not allowed in many places.

Have a wonderful trip.

a wider range telephoto could easily cover all your needs - on my 2 ,wk trip to Morocco last Feb I took only my lumix FZ-1000 with great results: https://www.shutterstock.com/es/g/cascoly?searchterm=morocco (this was a FAM trip so many hotel & restaurant shots). the wider range let me get the shots I wanted, even with the fast pace of the trip, no stopping to figure the correct lens; plus in the desert eliminates the problems with fine grained sand

I had no problems dealing with night, low light or bright desert sun

Thanks. I would definitely take that lens for indoor shots.

I wonder whether dust/sand was a general problem, or just in the desert. We will be in the desert for two days, but otherwise we will photograph in some of the larger cities. I could take two camera bodies, ( extra weight) or just live with my 70-300 once in the desert. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

As many have said here, when it comes to travel, go light and go right. Take the 35 and the Tamron. If you take everything, you’ll grow to hate all of it and so will your family. I’ve made the mistake of taking everything, PITA!

Makes good sense, but this is a photo specific trip and it is a long way to Canada if I leave what I need back home. My current thinking is to take the trinity in a rolling camera bag, but on any given day work with whatever lens I need ( likely the 24-79) and keep my filters and 35 in a side bag. Thanks again.

I think that f/4 is sufficient for travel photography. The Sigma Art lenses (whatever the focal length) are too heavy and bulky for travel, so I would definitely leave that one at home. You probably will be on the go a lot and will be carrying your camera bag all day long, every day. So I would pay attention to the weight of the camera kit. There probably will be moments when you want something wider than 24mm so I would take the 16-35mm as well.

I frequently travel internationally, and I invariably take my Sony 24-105 f/4 and Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 prime on my trips (Sony A7 III body). This travel kit works well for me--never needed a faster lens.

24-70 for 95% of your photos. 70-300 for occasional distant shots.

whitehall,

Take 16-35 and 24-70 (if you have 24-105 would be better). Majority of my pictures in recent Euro trip were taken with 16-35 Len. For interior, you can boost ISO up if you have 5D IV. Don't take 35 prime because the interior shot required ultra-wide angle len (16mm) and aperture around f5 - f5.6 for DOF.

Regards - Enjoy the trip.
