I have had a canon powershot for sometime now and I pretty much get the idea of the iso, shutter speed, and aperture. So now I want to buy my first DSLR because I know they are much more versitile and a point and shoot camera. Where should I start and what is the best beginner DSLR?

Both Nikon and Canon have entry-level models and slightly more advanced models, both capable of creating excellent images that are indistinguishable from more expensive models. They come bundled with one or two lenses. Consider visiting a camera store or even the camera section of a local bigbox store and handle the following models: Nikon - D3500 or D5600, Canon Rebel T7i or 77D or 80D.

Bill, it might be wise to consider, if your finances allow, a bit better than beginner camera to start. The reason being that you'll advance and then want to get a bit more camera to use your new-found skills. I've always felt it better to get the best bang for your buck and grow into that one.

No such thing as a best starter dslr, since you are using Canon, I suggest looking at the Canon Rebel T5i or any Rebel dslr. If your into Nikon, the D3100 up to D3500.

Buy a camera that you will spend some time growing into; not a camera that you will soon grow out of.

Your EOS T7 is an excellent camera. Paired with an EF-S 18-135 as discussed in your other thread, you'll be well configured for years of quality image making.

Good advice. Otherwise after your first "roll of film" is processed you are already looking for your next camera.

As a Beginner approximately 3 years ago, I was looking for my 1st DSLR Camera, did much research, and finally chose a used Nikon D3300 with the Nikon 15-55mm kit lens. I still have my D3300, it has been a very good learning DSLR Camera, nice easy to understand menu, easy to understand and operate this D3300. Today I have 4 Lens, sold the 18-55 kit lens, bought a Nikon 18-140mm 3.5-5.6, also have the Nikon 55-200, and 2 Prime lens, a 35mm 1.8g & a 50mm 1.8g. I will always suggest this D3300 camera to any Beginner or even a Advanced Beginner, it has served me very well for 3 years now, and I plan on many more, at 69 years old, not sure I will need an upgrade, on my Camera!
