Manual focusing

Recently got a Cannon 5d mark II and a good lense. When focusing in manual, after adjusting the diopter, the image in the view finder remains somewhat blury. Is this normal or should the image be tack sharp? If blury is normal, ,how do you focus accurately?

If the picture viewed on the computer is sharp, the problem is in your viewfinder. Does the image in the viewfinder look sharp when you autofocus?. If not, it is the view finder adjustment.

When I manual focus, I pass through the sharpest point and then come back.

I used to think my pictures were blurry until I discovered it's my "eyes" that are. I'd be lost without autofocus.

I just ordered a new diopter for my camera. Hopefully that will help.

I found with a digital camera, I had to bracket focus on manual (shoot the same subject repeatedly through a range of focus settings) because digital cameras lack a split prism focusing screen. Catzeye makes replacement split-prism focusing screen for digital cameras that I would use if I hadn't just switched back to film.
