Lavender and Pie

My son and I took a lovely drive in the country Friday. Our first stop was a lavender farm. They grow both English and French lavender and distill their own oils and lavender water in an old-fashioned copper still. The result is a light delicately fragrant product not overwhelming like many lavender products you find in the stores. The owner gave a nice little tour of their front gardens and explained how lavender is grown and processed. They lost a good deal of their crop to freezes this winter and spring, so their fields were not in full bloom, although they did have some that survived.
We then went to Crane Pie Pantry for lunch and, of course, pie. I had a piece of peach pie, a rare treat this year since Michigan's peach farmers lost 90% of their crop to winter cold and spring freezes this year. Son had his usual, apple pie. Yum!
