My photo skills are in the upper basic level and I’m working on that. I purchased my D750 for its full frame capabilities and wanted a camera that was a little more beefy (battery door, etc) than the entry level models.

I often hear my D750 referred to a a great wedding camera. Other posts talk about switching to their D850 for other type shots. Can someone, without getting overly technical, describe which of the most common cameras do best in certain situations.

I am totally happy with my D750 and learn something new almost every time I shoot. This is just a curiosity question for me, that might help someone else choosing a camera.

Attached is a shot I am particularly proud of.

Great capture that you should be proud of.
Resist having GAS. Gear Acquisition Syndrome.
Be HAPPY with what you got. My 3 cents

You choose a great camera, course I am biased because I have one to! Would really like to see your photo of the boats re-posted with the store original box at the bottom of the window checked so that we could download the picture to fill our screens all the way. It looks like a great image!

Pretty much any medium to higher end camera by any company will give you great shots in just about any situation. Spend your time taking pictures with your great camera and don’t worry about the other cameras out there.

Great shot. The D750 is a great camera, and can handle just about any sort of work you care to do with it. The D850 has more megapixels, which can provide more detail in your images. It also has a few features which may make certain things more convenient. Either camera is fine, and you should use what you have. Someday you may have a D850, D920, or whatever, and should then use that. Enjoy what you have while you have it, and then move on to something else, later, if you wish....and then enjoy that.

Advancing your skill level will improve your photography much more than new equipment ever will. By the way, that is a great image of the boats you posted!!!

I agree with the other posters here. D750 is a great camera. I have a D610 among others and it's more camera than I am photographer. Having said that I have to admit to a certain lust factor when something new shows up. When that happens I tell myself to save the money for a new lens or travel.

I made the jump directly from a D7100 to a D850 shortly after the D850 became available; I wanted to go full frame. One thing I like about the D850 is its ability to take time lapse movies in camera. It's my first full frame camera. Have kicked around the idea of retiring the D7100 and getting a D750 in its stead, but have not made the decision to do so. I typically travel with two camera bodies. My best DX lens quit working last October; had a Nikon 18-200 that lasted about ten years old. For now the D7100 has a 70-200 on it while the D850 has a 24-70. Have used both lens on both bodies.

"describe which of the most common cameras do best in certain situations. "

Except for professional cameras taking lots of abuse in all kind of situations and cameras like your D750 that do very well along with professional cameras when it comes to noise control I would dare to say that most modern cameras are very capable. They have an excellent AF system, an excellent in camera processor, do very well with sequential shooting, do file corrections in camera and because of the high pixel count they produce excellent enlargements.

Understand that any camera is very capable depending on the person behind it. Your camera could have a bunch of very useful features but if you do not know how to use them they are all useless. Gear matters, no questions about it but the best professional camera and lens will never make a photographer better. Quality image depends more on the operator than the camera.

Like others I think the Nikon D750 is a great camera. I think though that some people break down camera uses further. Some cameras excel when it comes to taking low light photography; some cameras excel at sports photography due to a faster frame per second rate. I am sure it can be broken down more than that but not for me.

I have been taking photographs since the late 50's to early 60's. I bought my first Nikon F in Vietnam in 1966 and have purchased a number of Nikons since then. Also purchased a few Canon, Leica, Hasselblad, Mamiya, Pentax, Rollieflex and so on. All were great cameras. But I have pretty much settled on Nikon and Leica. They do all I need to do.

Cameras with high resolution like the D850/D810 are great for landscape work. The D750 will also be a good camera for landscape along with weddings. At 6.5 fps. it could be decent for sports also, these are the types of questions you ask BEFORE you purchase a camera.
