June Bug Face 10X View

This is one of my preserved June Bug Beetles that I staged while I still had the 10X microscope objective set up on the camera. The beetles are preserved in denatured alcohol for future sessions.

For those who may be interested, the particulars of this image are that the camera's lens was an AmScope 10X Plan Achromatic Infinate microscope objective with a 204mm tube lens and extension tubes. Total distance traveled in the focus stacking process was 1.6mm in which 361 shots were taken traveling a distance of 5-microns per step per shot. The focus rail used is a digital motorized rail to accomplish the fine number of movements and to automatically actuate the camera shutter.

DigiCam (free) camera control software is used to watch the camera's live view and to adjust the camera's settings on a laptop PC as well as to control the digital focus rail parameters for the session.

The camera (Nikon D810) is set to Manual mode and Mirror Up. The eyepiece of the viewfinder is closed to prevent fugitive light from entering the camera. Shutter speed is set via the camera's light meter. Aperture setting is not applicable when using microscope objectives as the camera's lens.

The 361 images were processed in Zerene Stacker to produce this image.

Thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

I see that in the morning in my mirror when I shave. Really nice, sippy.
