Mode-Dial difficult to move

Just wondering if anyone could help out. I just purchased a Nikon D2X in very good condition. It takes amazing photos but my only issue is the the mode-dial seems to be very stiff to move. Although I usually shoot in single mode, I do need to move it to the self timer which is over at the other side of the dial. Any ideas on how I can free up the dial. Thanks.

Does it by any chance have a button in the middle that you are supposed to push down in order to move the dial? My D750 does.

It has a lock button on the body just outside the dial. It is a pro body camera.

If you have a manual check it and see what it says about turning the dial. You may need to hold the button down while turning the dial. That is what I have to do on my D750.

I just downloaded the manual for your camera and that lock button is for turning the mode dial. If you have a manual look on page 44 at the very top and it tells you to press the lock down while turning the dial. Hope you didn't try very hard to turn the dial without pressing that button. It could cause some damage.

Thanks for looking at the manual. I know about the button having to be pressed to turn the dial. Still sticking. It’s only on this camera body. Maybe because it hasn’t been in use since 2009. I know this because that was the last firmware update for the camera.

Hard to describe just how hard the dial is to turn. I would try pushing the button in and out a bunch of times in case it is not going in all the way. Then do the same with the dial. If that doesn't help a trip to the shop for a check up.

Time for a cleaning. If you haven't used it since 2009, it may need a good cleaning. I would send it in to Nikon or a local camera shop.

Looks like it's time for the camera to take a trip to Nikon Repair Svs.

Ditto for Canon professional level camera. The button is there is there to keep the photographer from accidentally changing the settings.
