The gloom of early morning difficult to capture, but you did it. Well done.
guardineer I'm deeply moved by the breathtaking composition here... epic example of the iconic rule of thirds... the soft muted illumination cast an ethereal aura on this surreal dreamscape...
What could be done to transform into publication quality?
First maybe rethink your settings on the Nikon D7500...
There is virtually no compelling reason to shoot at 1/2500 second at f/5.6 with the AF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 VR lens at 18mm (FX=27mm). Here 1/100 second is more than sufficient with VR enabled thus no need to be at 640 ISO. Commercial "Landscape" shooters are typically always at basement ISO a.k.a. 64 to 100.
Ok I have the AF-S 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6 DX VR lens and will never open it wider than f/8 since the IQ simply isn't there... But don't take my word on this... test and you will be shocked at how much better the acuity is at f/8 to f/11.
Next issue is luminance which on this capture there is virtually no data points above 150... You are only using 60% of the sensor's dynamic range... try and maintain values throughout the range between 0 and 255. Yes in this rendering there will be very few data points in the high end but the high end should tapper off and not be "clipped" at 150. Use your in camera histogram to determine your exposure value... relying on the D7500 matrix metering will maybe get you close but for this scene you will likely need to override with exposure compensation.
Once again stellar composition... Hope this feedback helps or is at least food for thought...
Looking forward to more of your artistic landscape work guardineer
Thanks for the comment LCD
Thank you Thomas, I very much appreciate your insight and recommendations.
Thomas902: I'm curious on how you were able to pull the EXIF data that your cited in your post.
Very nice. There is a surreal three dimensional effect about this image that is outstanding. Well done!
That’s a nice one--congrats!
