Great shots and story Sylvia.
We've recently returned home from a short vacation at Searles Holiday camp in Hunstanton, Norflok UK, they have a DUKW that they use through the summer for tourist rides from their beach.
Good luck Bill

Your color grading and shadow detail are absolutely superb. Great Work!

Time has taken so many of those heroes. Great to see one like Bill!!

Outstanding series of photojournalism. Our old soldiers are passing way too quickly. Also appreciate the origins of the Duck (DUKW). Today we can't turn around and blow our nose as fast as this vehicle was built. I never drove a Duck, but drove plenty of the GMC Duece and a halfs.
Wonderful set...nicely done.
Great story Sylvia. Wonderful tribute.
Excellent series, Sylvia! Excellent! It is hard to imagine just how young these men were and what they accomplished. My father was only 19 when he landed at Normandy on D-day. He went through holy hell for the duration. he was wounded a couple of times, received a bronze star, and sadly, lost his older brother on 7 January, 1945. My dad would never talk about it.

Excellent! We have very few of these heroes still with us and should do anything we can to honor them and thank them for their service and sacrifice.
Great series, Sylvia. Excellently photographed.

In 1944 Bill Milward was one of the soldiers involved in the D Day landings. He drove a DUKW across France and the Continent. My daughter-in-law Clare noticed he had a model of a DUKW and she thought it would be lovely to arrange a ride for him in one similar to what he drove during the D Day Landings. This culminated today when Bill was driven through the streets of Ashbourne with lots of people waving at him along the way. This DUKW had been made out of the remains of two others by a farmer.
Until recently Bill walked regularly but a bad knee meant arrangements had to be made for him to be lifted into the vehicle.
Two television stations and local radio interviewed him, the local newspapers advertised the event.
Just a few shots I managed to get fighting through the crowds!
Bill is a lovely old gentleman who will never forget the day with the DUKW and the reception he got from the town.
