Why buy lenses from let’s say Tamron or Sigma, as opposed to OEM lenses from the camera manufacturer? Wouldn’t Nikon lenses for Nikon cameras or Canon lenses for Canon cameras, etc. be better in general than third party lenses?

If cost is the main issue, wouldn’t a used OEM lens in excellent condition be better in general than a new third party lens? I guess used third party lenses still beat out used OEM lenses cost wise.

I understand that Tamron and Sigma lenses are popular. Just curious as to why?

I have the Sigma 150-600 for my D810 because Nikon did not have a counterpart at the time I purchased it.

How did you "get burned"???

My two examples of Sigma 10-20 are great lenses - I would purchase another, but I don't need any more.

Sigma and Tamron have both stepped up their game. Sure if your pocket book can take the hit for a $3000 lens vs $1300, by all means do it. I have sold two of my older Nikon lens and replaced them with Tamron and I could not be more happy.

Before I switched from Canon to Olympusall the lenses for my Canon were high end fast Sigma lenses. Quaality as good as oem at a fraction of the cost. I used only ex series lenses and you would be hard pressed to convince me that the added cost of oem was worth the cost. The photagrapher for my stepdaughters wedding showed up with a pro nikon body and a bag full of sigma lenses.

Take a look at Sigma Art series lens. You might be surprised at results.

Suggest a test: Shoot a few with the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art prime, then with a similar Canon or Nikon. Let us know what you discover.

The bottom of a Coke bottle is as good as Nikons 24-120mm VR
And unlike the Coke bottle, the 24-120mm VR does not come with
a refreshing drink!

It's important to remember that when you purchase a lens from the Nikon, Canon, etc, you are paying a pretty penny just for the name.

Same can be said for their cameras. If you don't want to pay for a nikon, buy something else. I promise I won't laugh at you. Best of luck.

I’ve never gotten a bottle of Coke that came with a glass of Lagavulin.

If you want a better lens & even more bragging rights buy Zeiss.
