Yesterday was World Photography day, so I wanted to make a photograph. Work got in the way a bit, so I decided to try and take two pictures that show what gear does do. I'm not big on gear as I like a good story or composition. I do think our choice of gear can change how the story appears. That was my goal anyway.
So, same time (this took about 10-15 minutes to shoot due to a distracted model), same place and same model. Same camera body, D500, but different lenses; 8mm and 300mm+1.4TC. I couldn't get the same pose. For the 8mm, I was about a foot away and needed depth of field (it is a $100 rokinon manual focus that is soft unless stopped down). The other I'm about 30 feet away.
It was a fun try.
Focal length makes a big difference, doesn't it? Good example.
It is the field of view that changes, the depth of field does not necessarily change.
