Tamron 70-200 F2.8 on Nikon D7

I have a D7200 and D300S and am considering a Tamron 70-200 2.8. I realize that the lens is a full frame device but can I use it on my DX cameras and has anyone had experience with this lens?
Thanks,
Dave

I had that lens and it is nice. I wish I hadn't sold it.

Yes, I have the lens and a D7200 and they work just fine together.

I agree. I use mine very satisfactorily with my D500 (a DX body). Just shot over 250 shots at an evening preschool event.

The G2 version is a very nice piece of glass.

I have that lens and use it on my D600(I got a good one that didn't have spot problems) and a d7000. It works on both. However if you are using it on a DX camera like your 7200 the actual focal lengths will be 1.5x the 70-200 mm, ie.; 105-300 mm.

I use this lens and am very happy with the results. Sharp w/ good contrast. Since the Tamron is a full Frame lens and the sensor on your 7200 is smaller the sensor will not see the edges of the lens so it should be even sharper than on the full frame. Tamron makes good lenses and has a 6 year warranty. Good luck with it.

Focal lengths are identical in both formats; it's the fields of view that differ.

All full frame lenses will work on DX Nikons, but not the other way around... DX lenses do not work for full frame (Except most Nikon full frame cameras have a DX “mode” for compatibility.)

no, No, NO. The focal length of the lens WILL NOT CHANGE, just the Field Of View (i.e.; it will appear to be the longer lens, but the actual focal length will not change, period.

Have had the G2 version for a while now. Have used it on a D7200, D500, D800 and D850. It is an excellent lens; sharp, fast, VR works great, AF is quick. Gets great reviews. Can’t beat it especially for the asking price. You might want to look at used and possibly save another 20% to 40%. Rent it first to see if you like it.
