I like these as well. The Hong Kong photo looks great but there's something odd going on. The bicycle is casting a shadow on the blue and tan structure but there are no shadows anywhere else. Maybe the lighting was just like that. The Cartagena, Columbia photo is the only one that's a little overcooked.

I think the bicycle (and shadow) are painted on.

The bicycles were an art exhibit. I just liked how they fit into the composition.

I had run out of photo projects so I decided to do some work with the Nik Collection HDR Efex Pro 2. I reprocessed some old images from my Lightroom catalog and thought I rather liked what I saw. I know we frequently make negative comments about photos that are "overcooked". But what if overcooking is you goal. It's not for everyone to be sure but I thought it was fun to create images that look like they want to jump right off the wall. I doubt there is serious artistic merit in this work but your comments would be appreciated. Go easy on me, I'm only having fun.

#1 This is a street scene from Cartagena, Columbia. The original photo was pretty intense but the HDR sent it over the top.

#2 I called this one "Hollywood Alps". One or two days each year the skies of Los Angeles are super clear. This was one of those days. Canon 5D Mark II (since retired) with a 70-300 mm 20 year old lens.

#3 Hong Kong 2018 I think this is where a lot of the current protests are taking place. Camera was a Panasonic GX8 with a 12-60 mm lens.

#4 Windstar ship in the Adriatic 2017. This was a twilight shot approaching our cruise ship at Dubrovnik. I'm not posting the original but this is a significant improvement.

You are going to have to hit the download to get the intensity. Photos are out of order from the text.
I had run out of photo projects so I decided to do... (show quote)

I enjoyed everyone. Windstar is great!

I like the Hollywood Alps. Reminds me of the time when working in Martinsberg WV a co worker who was really into drag racing and lived in Hagerstown MD. asked me concerning the winter nationals in Pomona how it could be 90 degrees there and have snow on the mountains in the background. Ha ha. I just told him it does that there. I like Windstar and my wife liked that one also. Altogether it’s a nice set.

Probably the most spectacular winter view in LA would be a shot from the grandstands at Santa Anita Racetrack in the winter. Why I never thought of going and doing that I don't know. That's going to be a project for next year.

Every time the Rose Parade is broadcast with spectators in sandals, shorts and t-shirts the phones start ringing at the moving companies and the HR departments of all the So Companies. The calls are coming from Minnesota, Buffalo, Canada, the Northern Plains etc.

When they see Californians dressed that way and out their window they see deep snow and/or bears begging firewood they get the urge to become Californians

My employer moved me to California in 1965 at the age of 24. Until recently, this was the greatest place in the country to live. Not so much any more. I too had the Rose Bowl experience. Never thought I would get here.

My wife and I have thought of deserting the People's Democratic Republic of California a few times but we have family and financial ties here and to keep my now excellent health care with Kaiser would need to go where Kaiser is. Limited number of states where I could pick from and very few relatives etc. My wife is Mexican-American and staying close to family is important to her. Our daughter is in Medical School at the University of Virginia but when she graduates and moves we would have no one there.

There will always be naysayers, and others that don't indulge in a little over cooking...
Think of it like this... A pot roast is just overcooked chuck steak, (most of the time)...
you do like pot roast, don't you?
There's a reason they invented these programs, and that's to see where the mind can take these,
and what levels you/we can take them too...
It's just another form of art... and you can take it all the way beyond abstract, if you like...

BTW.. these are very good... sign your name to them and be proud...
