Just purchased my first Olympus PRO lens, the 12-40 f2.8. Very excited! Any tips? I have the Oly m5 II and looking forward to the m5 III.
Love their pro lenses. My Nikon friends get jealous.

Keep an eye on the lens cap and lens hood. If the little metal band around them is loose, you can expect it to explode and sling springs and ball bearings all over the place. Be prepared to dismantle and glue it back together.
Be aware of the manual focus clutch; if the menu has it set to be enabled, and it slips to engaged, you will be wondering why you can't auto-focus any more.
Get a grip for the E-M5. It's a heavy lens, and it's a strain to hold with a bare E-M5. My preferred grip is the ECG-2.
Congratulations! Now that you're a pro, you can start making making money.

My tip is to shoot the living daylights out of it as soon as you get it, then, come back and do a personal review for all of us here at UHH.

I have used that lens more than any other. It is super sharp and can produce excellent images. Only one caution: the mf clutch ring can be easily switched in normal handling and you could find yourself shooting mf unintentionally. Just something to be aware of. It is a great everyday lens for me. I hope you enjoy yours!

Great lens! Have had it since I got my EM1 and use it on the EM1, EM1 II, M10 and Pen mini. Sharp, dependable, and worth the money. Tip: It has a clutch ring to put it into manual focus only mode. If you are putting it into the camera bag, you might slide it and find your auto focus will not work. Very disconcerting the first time ( I forgot about the feature and spent a half hour trouble shooting the first time!). It only happens once in a while - maybe will never happen to you, but be aware.
I long for that lens. Where did you get it? New or used? show some pix soon!
Be assured of the excellent optical qualities of the 12-40 f2.8 Pro lens by Olympus. It is a very fine optics.
If you do your part the lens will reward you with excellent photographs.

It is a great lens. Very sharp throughout the zoom and aperture. Sharpness will normally only be affected by diffraction. It usually starts to appear about f11 for 4/3rds. But it can be acceptable beyond that depending on your needs for the image. Max aperture (f22?) will produce some softness which you may be able to use creatively. It will easily become your workhorse lens. Don't baby it when it comes to weather; go shooting in the rain for a different point of view.
I put a wide rubber band next to the sliding ring to
keep it in the autofocus mode
Good luck to you, love mine

Also realize that if you can see the focus scale on the lens barrel (where the focus is in feet and meters), you are in manual focus. The auto focus clutch covers the numbers up when in auto focus (Olympus did that deliberately).

jerryc41, does that mean I was only a Pro while I had my rental 12-100 f4 Pro IS for two weeks?😂
