As I understand it for the higher end Canon bosies if I use AI Focus and my subject moves within the frame the camera will refocus. Sounds like that would be good if you are taking a picture of a group and people are moving. On the other hand with AI Servo, when you and/or the subject moves it will refocus. Is this correct?

Same system as the 60d, I also have a Canon 7D and RacerDan is correct.

Then as a newbie who shoots some portrait and some flowers (other non moving) but also my granddaughters (always moving!!) and my daughter in Taekwondo, I would need to switch back and forth between these focusing methods? I'm beginning to understand the different shutter speeds needed to freeze movement, but now do I need to incorporate these focusing methods as well? Thank you much!!

to freeze movement you need a fast shutter speed, like 1/1000

Thanks Gemlenz I understand about the shutter speed. My question is about the focus modes you were also asking about. How do they play into the equation along with shutter speed, ISO and aperture.

Thanks!

The focus modes do not affect the shutter speed, ISO and aperture triangle as focus has nothing to do with exposure. It just has to do with what part of your image is in focus. Does that make sense?

Yes it does. Thank you. I guess I need to ask if there is a preferred focus mode for subjects that are in a continuous fast motion. For example my daughter in her taekwondo forms or sparring. Thanks!

I would suggest AI Servo for when people are moving because the camera will continuously re-focus once you press the shutter half way down. Try it...:-)
