...there's no "sharpness" problem with *my* 590! Love it to death and have created a few pieces of wall art with it. My 720 (yes, I have two cameras dedicated) is fine, too, but there is really no difference in sharpness between the two (I use an olde 18-70 DX Nikkor lens or, lately, a DX Tokina 10-17 fisheye...so maybe I'm lucky.)...
I would like the 590 because I can use filters with it if I wanted too. According to the site that was posted here the A6300 is a good camera for conversion.

...I'm eyeballing a Sony mirrorless full frame to convert, and the mirrorless format allows for a "what you see is what you get" platform on the backscreen. Ups *my* IR game, that's for sure.
Several months go I ordered an infrared filter, R-72, for low cost from Amazon. It makes some interesting images and I fooled around with it for a while. Drawbacks are long exposures. Tripod is a necessity. The image you see on your display won't tell you much because it is all magenta. So you do a little bracketing, fool around with focus because modern lenses don't have the little red R showing where to adjust your focus. shoot with a medium aperture, which further increases the exposure time. All it all, a dedicated camera appears to be a better choice if you are planning to do a lot of IR photography. There are also other filters that pass more visible spectrum light.
The two attachments are the same exposure, one is what the camera gave. The other has been processed to remove the magenta and turned 90 drgre3e3s.
I don't like having choices. Makes me crazy to try and decide. I have a Canon 7DM2 and now I'm trying to decide which would be better to convert. I like my A6300 for a pocket camera and I was trying to sell my Canon with several lenses but now I'm considering converting it instead of the Sony.

...you're thinking right AFA the conversion...filters are a PITA and you absolutely are in the mud and can't shoot fast at all...
Sorry, chasgroh, I guess I don’t speak the language of your two acronyms. Did you post what AFA and PITA mean somewhere and I just missed it?

Haha..."as far as" and "Pain In The A$$"...both part of the digital world I live in and assume, apparently incorrectly, that you do, too! So, my bad and I'll do better next time!
...Isaac did my 590 and will do my next FF...solid work.
Thanks now I just have to decide between the Canon and the Sony.

...do the mirrorless, many advantages...research it!
Yeah, I just hate to sacrifice it. I don't know why, I still have the A7iii.

I suggest you buy a 520 or 620nm low-cost IR filter for your Sony. Do not fall for the "you get what you pay for people." IR is not something you will do much of why waste money. If you become adicted to IR, then, of course, you spend money, but for what gain? A 520 or 620nm gives some visible light as well as IR and makes interesting photos. With a click, you can convert R/B sky/trees OR you can do the noble thing and fight with Adobe PS to do the conversion with complication and frustration. Me, I do a click and it is done. That was very interesting. Thank you and I will follow that website.
He converted my A-65, very pleased with all aspects of the deal.

Thank you. I’m glad you will.
This is a 5 mb infrared someone posted on a website for people to download as a test challenge. It was the usual bland red file to start with. I don't have photoshop or lightroom. I use On1 and Paint shop pro. I followed the channel mixing tutorials on the web and I got this. I sent in my A6300 for conversion to 590nm. I'm hoping I can get better quality files to work with from my camera. I also used NIK Silver.
