umm why doesn't the US flag in one of the pics cast a shadow?

It's there... zoom in, the flag itself's shadow would be off screen, but you can see the pole shadow.

Nope sorry, I zoomed in to look and I could not see the pole's shadow either. It should run from the bottom of the flag off to the right past the guy in the suit and should show up on parts of the ground that are in sunlight (the light source being to the left side of the image) but I can't see any shadow of the pole to the right of it on the ground.

If you look very close you can also see a dark line down the sun side of the pole towards the bottom of the pole, close to the ground about a fifth or sixth of the way up from the base. There would be no black line on that side of the pole since it is all in sunlight. Looks to me like this flag was photo-shopped in after the fact.

Anybody else???

The shadow is not there due to improper studio lighting.

Each photo with a flag I could see the shadow. If you could, state which specific image you can't see it, and I'll take a closer look.

both of them don't show a shadow. Not on the flag itself but on the ground. Tell us where you can see the flag pole shadow please.

You have to look closely, but you can see a faint shadow. You can't see it closer to the pole becasue the dirt mound is higher than where the shadow would be at that point. The shadow would be behind the mound, or ridge.

With each thumbnail at NASA's site, download the larger image and you can see the shadow better than with the smaller image.

I thought those shadows were his legs.

Duhhh they are his legs, the arrows point to the very tiny thin shadow from the thin flag pole. Speaking of arrows, didn't know there were Indians on the moon!
