I had the opportunity to spend a day sightseeing while in Taipei for a week on business, and was able to get to the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial as well as the Lung-Shan Temple and get a few pictures. I did not bring my "regular" camera or lenses with me for various reasons, but brought my Nikon D70 and a Tamron 28-300. The DR of the camera and limited ISO posed a challenge for me and limited the quality of the shots. As well, being limited to the 28mm short end really impacted my composures. Next time, I will bring my D7200 and my Tokina 12-24 for the wide angle stuff. 98% of what I shoot is nature and landscape, so the subjects (being in a city) were really out of my comfort zone. It was so humid out that I was constantly removing my lens to wipe the condensation off.

In addition to the sightseeing, I got to experience a 6.0 earthquake from the 14th floor of my hotel (and yes, high rises really do move dramatically during an earthquake), and even went through a typhoon that was the equivalent of a category 2 hurricane, which closed the island down on Friday. Overall the visit was quite an experience.

I hope you enjoy them.

That 14 year old D70 produced nice photo's and you got to experience an earthquake and a typhoon, that's what I call a full vacation. Thanks for posting.

Beautiful shots. Was stationed in Taiwan 3 years with 2 at Taipei Air Station (1970 - 1973). Was a very wonderful tour and made many friends there. Brought back some very wonderful memories. Mahalo for sharing.

Thanks Ched49. I appreciate the comments... I have to admit though, I could have done without the earthquake :)

Thanks Richard! It was tough with the limits of the D70 / lens combo to get good exposures at the temple... there were a lot of opportunities that I missed due to the limitations.
