When I lived in Germany many years ago, I got a kick out of the roadway sign "Aus Fahrt."

Yes, especially when I lived there.
Took a mandatory course in German, among other languages when deploying to live in a specific country.

Often, leaving the fuel stops, sign says Guten Fahrt. Good journey. Plenty of fahrting. Must be the Sauer Kraut??

When stationed in Germany, one of our favorite pranks on "newbies" was, if they asked how to get to a certain place out of town, we'd tell them to go straight down the main road until they saw a sign that said Umleitung, and follow those signs to their destination. They weren't happy when they found that Umleitung means Detour.

The entire word fussbodenschliefmaschinenverleih means Floor Sanding Machine Rental but the individual words that compose it are: fuss=foot, boden=ground, schlief=fall asleep, maschinen=machine, verleih=rental.

German is an interesting language.

This photo of a plumber's shop was taken in Austria several decades ago.

A slight misspelling changes the meaning altogether :
its actually "schleif" meaning "to grind" rather than "schlief" meaning "was sleeping"
