After researching and trying out the new Nikon FL model ..wow .., so impressed .. I ordered one today ...Had definite advantages in sharpness ..3.5 close focal and true 200+ mm. A little lighter weight than the older model an a bigger lens hood .

I will post sample shots down the road ..

If you look at the barrel, not VR II.

Great lens. I posted a couple of shots the other day with the 1.4x T/C.

Great lens Dr. Nikon!! I purchased one to photograph my daughter's Hunter/Jumper shows and it is amazingly sharp. I can see whiskers and moles on the faces of various riders!! On previous shows, I used my 24-124 f/4 Nikon lens and the difference in the image quality/sharpness is amazing. Very happy with the purchase!!

I have the VR II and cannot imagine the FL being so much better. But, that is the word on the street.
Enjoy your new FL model.

Bill .., I went back and looked at that 1.4 III post .. yep excellent .., I’ve been assured that with my D850 .. cropping will exceed that which a teleconverter can accomplish without the need for extra class ...

Thnx for replying ..

I accidentally stuck in VR II..,, 😂

But extra glass and the ability to crop is the bee's knees.

It is - I considered the VR II but waited until I had a need for the FL - glad I waited. Yes, it is THAT sharp.

Another new 70-200. Going out to buy one could be confusing.

I wonder and hope that the upcoming S mount lens for the Nikon Z cameras will be this body.

You may not be able to imagine it, but it is true, true, true. I've had them all!

Unlikely, because S lenses (for Z bodies) are usually a bit smaller. I will also be considering the new S version when it arrives, but, for now, I mostly use my 70-200 F4 because it is so much lighter, a big reason I bought a Z6 last Saturday. I can't say enough good things about it and the 24-70 F4 S, but I plan to shoot a football scrimmage with my Z6 and my 200-400 tomorrow. I might just post a couple if it works out for me. Best of luck.
