It is really hard to beat the Sony RX10 IV for traveling !

If I were using a 7D, on a trip I would be using the Sigma 17-70 and the 70-300L. The 24-105 not wide enough ....

If I was serious about my images, (and I am) I would not be using the 18-400 - but I do understand the convenience factor. 8-)

I am going to Europe this fall, Venice to Rome. I have a Canon 7D II with 24-105 and 70-300L. Looking to lighten my load, not opposed to changing lenses. Am I better off with a Tamron 18-400 (effective 24-600) on my camera, or getting a Sony RX 10 IV (24-600). Larger sensor with Tamron lens or smaller sensor with maybe better lens. Tamron $650, Sony $1700. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

What is your goal? The lens on the RX10 is better than the 18-400, btw.

The lens is better, the sensor is smaller, how would the images compare? Better images is the goal. Does the larger sensor offset the poorer lens at all?

The lager sensor will help, but there is something about a smaller camera with a great lens that still produces excellent images that is just alluring and kinda hard to beat. First two taken with an M3 loaner, no experience with Sony cameras at this point. The rest were taken with my M4.
