Both Renoir and Picasso painted nudes.
Picasso was a great admirer of Renoir.

If I were an intergalactic alien looking for a good time on a vacation and the travel brochures showed Picasso's nudes as examples of Female Earthlings, I would look at brochures for Mars or maybe even something in the Andromeda Galaxy.

How times have changed. In today's world many men would think the women, in the first painting, were fat or obese.

Thanks for the comment, most of Renoirโ€™s adult female models would be considered overweight by our standards

Agreed. But there is more than just a hint of realism in his work.

So what do YOU think of the paintings 2 & 3? Is that truly art?

I feel that once a reputation is established, then anything produced by that person is considered a work of art. But to me they are grotesque distortions of reality, and they are not pretty. It takes talent to achieve an accurate rendition of reality, but there are an infinite number of ways to distort it. Of course, if I painted MY distorted version of a nude woman it would be junk; but when Picasso does it... well...

John, thanks for commenting.
NO I do not see #2 & #3 as art, but what do I know??

But, who knows, to them these might be beautiful women. "Hey, doesn't that look like your sister, Xrtivahast?"

Never heard that before about Picasso and I can't see why Picasso would admire Renoir anyway. Renoir's nudes look like the Michelin man to me and this is one of his major pieces. He didn't paint many. While in comparison those aren't Picasso's best nude paintings. All 80,000 pieces of his work can't be masterpieces.
BTW, art isn't supposed to be about being pretty.

I have always wondered why Picasso's paintings were so admired and expensive. These paintings make me wonder even more.
