As the father of 3 daughters in the US the best thing that happened for women in sports was the law Title 9, which made schools provide equal opportunities & funding for women's sports to equal men's. There was some negativity as some secondary sports for men were discontinued but it allowed women that were 2nd class citizens to develop into 1st class athletes. My youngest was a Division I runner with a partial scholarship. The US Women's Soccer team is a major result. As to Simone, she had learning disabilities and a sexual predator to contend with, so her triumph is even more meaningful. Title 9 was a reality well before our current Fearless Leader (my apologies to Rocky & Bullwinkle).

I was teaching in Chatham Township, NJ when that came about. It changed, for the good, how girls were viewed and treated.

About 1/2 hour from Paterson Falls. I was at Rutgers in New Brunswick 68-69, but graduated from one of their other campuses in 1972. I have five granddaughters, so I hope they benefit from Title 9 as well.

I have two degrees from FDU, grad credits from Montclair, Stevens Inst of Technology and undergrad certification credits from Rutgers Newark. I hope your 5 granddaughters do well.

As a sidelight she might have broken the world high jump record. She must have been 3 body lengths above the floor.
