I’ve been searching for the proper name for modern cellphones. "Smartphone" just doesn’t seem to cut it. "Tablet" doesn’t quite work for me. I’m looking at MMD for "multimedia device". Their roots are in cellphones but making phone calls is the least of the marvels that they do. I love my MMD. 😘😘

I think "smartphone" separates the do-everything phones from those that don't do as much. I like the English term - "mobile." It's short and to the point.

Mobile phone is good but it doesn’t do justice to all the other features. It’s kinda like referring to a Bugatti as just another car. 😉😉

I call it a "cell phone".
It's not very smart as it's always waiting for me to tell it to do something and how to do it.

'Phablet' is sometimes used to refer to larger smartphones.

It seems that one or another vital steps are left out in the directions for each new 'app'

The grandkids all seem to know how to make the thing work. I, on the other hand, five years after retirement, still struggle with the feeling that everything was explained in a meeting to which I was not invited

I read an article describing how, when Apple perfected (not, invented) the first iPhones, they wanted to call them "pocket computers" which far more aptly describes their capability. However, some company had already reserved that name and could have charged a royalty for each and every one sold with that designation. "MMD" is an accurate name but not very catchy; I'm sure the marketing department wouldn't have gone with it.
