Train stations have so much more character than airports. Had to change trains in Philadelphia last week and had to capture the waiting room of the 30th Street Station.

My father worked in that building for several years, so did my mother; they both worked for the PRR.
Several years ago, that section of the building (photo one) was being renovated and half the main waiting room and the adjoining concourse were closed to the public. The closed area was scheduled to be reopened about a week or so before Christmas. Just before the area was reopened, the company I worked for rented the space for their annual holiday party. That year's party was a fun, unique and most memorable party, and not the only time the party was held at what is or was a train station.
Interesting piece of history, the roof of the main section of the building was designed and built to be a runway for small aircraft.

Wow, quite the stories. Great party place inside.
Here in NYC often museums are booked for big companies (with big budgets) to throw Holiday Parties.
But no one wants an aircraft on top. Recently a helicopter lost its way in a storm and crashed on a roof top in mid-Manhattan.

Excellent work! The station has been cleaned up since I used to pass through there.

Thanks for the info. This type of history really gives the building a life of its own!

Not only clean but its full of activity and the people working there are pleasant and happy to be of assistance when needed.

I don't believe any airplanes ever landed on the roof. Who knows what the designers were thinking. They had to build a sturdy building to support that concrete runway roof.
As for the party, I'm pretty sure it was the only time that was done there. Normally the place is crawling with train passengers. Both AMTRAK and SEPTA regional trains use the station.
Philadelphia's main location for big corporate parties these days is the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Thank you! It's what a real train station should look like...
