Yes, there are some cases where one-er-ther is best or both stand as strong individuals. In this case, I sense that the colored gives a better message.

I like this a lot, Joe. The sharp seed heads contrast the oof background material. A simple but striking shot.

Yes, and I was not criticizing the OP er's image as I had tried processing mine to B&W and it was terribly boring. And yes, I have a number of images that work well both ways and many that work not at all, but are essentially discards.
