You have to sit and take some shots a couple days a week just to keep the birds used to you and the flash, not mention keeping yourself in sync. You hope for a unique visitor or something different. Some days you get a couple and then some days KABAM. Today there were several cardinal juvenile hanging around acting like juvenile do. Their feathers have come in and no mom and dad.
I have just received a 1.4 to go on the 100-400 and it does change thing a bit. The distance from this feeder is short so the DOF is pretty thin, but it sure does make some great boken.

I tell ya that 1.4 is quite a piece of work.
