The Jelling Stones are massive carved runestones from the 10th century, found at the town of Jelling in Denmark. The older of the two was raised by King Gorm the Old in memory of his wife Thyra. The larger of the two stones was raised by King Gorm's son Harald Bluetooth, in memory of his parents, celebrating his conquest of Denmark and Norway, and the conversion of the Danes to Christianity. The runic inscriptions on these stones are considered the best known in Denmark.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed them. Believe it or not some kids actually spray painted them some years ago and after cleaning the stones they were placed in the glass enclosures.

We had been to Denmark on a previous trip and were not aware of them either. Glad we took the excursion. Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Thanks CPO, glad you liked them.. The excursion to the stones was one offered on our cruise and we took it because I am somewhat handicapped and we look for the ones that are graded and easy, glad we did. Just as an aside FYI I am a retired LCDR.
