I know, he moves constantly so it's difficult to get a sharp shot.
I have the same problem with my dogs as well as wildlife especially birds. I saw a vlog that suggested putting the camera into continuous shooting mode, then take about a dozen shots when you think your subject might move a bit. When you go through the shots, you have a high probability of finding at least one in focus. Looking at the first shot, that cute puppy nose is very sharp, so I'm thinking your AF locked on the closest thing to the camera and not the eye(s). Just a guess.
