One of my cats has a chronic condition that requires medication (a pill) every other day. I take the pill out of the bottle and put the pill in front of her like a "treat". She eats it right up no problem.
Wow! Never in my 60 plus years have I ever, and I've had cats all my life.
I had a cat that required thyroid pills daily. I found that if I placed a large towel under his neck and around to the back of his neck, and fastened with a safety pin, I could easily get the pills in him without getting scratched. The secret is to be fast, get it to the back of the throat, and softened cheese helps it go down the chute.
Many years ago, I helped my mom give our cat a bath. Last time ever. His legs slipped through my hands because of the soap, and his back paws laid my palm open. It didn't require stitches, but I did get a tetanus shot, and I was introduced to Neosporin Ointment. I believe it had just been introduced and it was prescription only.

Giving a rectal pill for cats would be easier, at least the rectum doesn't bite!!
