As you can see from the attached, I sometimes get fixated on a scene and then do not know what to do with it. This shot is from our return home from our recent trip to Washington state and Idaho. I cropped out some of the road, but did not leave out the fork at the bottom left. Should I take that out to strengthen the leading line of the road? Any other comments or suggestions are welcome.

To give more prominence to the distant mountain peaks I would take some off of the right side and perhaps just a skim off of the left. Don't feel compelled to have a leading line lead into the centre of the frame. As it is it leads the eye to the line of peaks and it will do that even if it's terminating point is well to the right.

Any suggestion* I'd make would have nothing to do with the road or its forking, which is fine as is.

*suggestion = subjective opinion based on formal study and years and years of indolence. Too much blue sky above the clouds. Reduce such that the amount of blue above the cloud equals the amount of blue below the cloud (on the left edge of the image).

Thanks, R.G., for taking the time.

I appreciate that, Jim. Thanks for taking the time.

I’d like to see the extra road before cropping as it may balance the comp. can’t say for sure without seeing it.

As it is, the road at the bottom left is nearly invisible and there is just too much blank sky. I've taken a screen shot cropped as I thin it looks best. This make it look more like a PNAO and eliminates the blank sky. You still have the road leading into the heart of the image.

Just my suggestion

I would take it one step further and crop a good amount from the right - for me, that balances the road and the big clouds on the left, and the road leads off into the hills rather than ending pretty much in the middle of the image. Just my compositional $0.02 worth...

Interesting approach, Larry. Tommy has another approach which also gives me some good ideas.

Out of what I gave you guys, you are coming up with some great ideas. I will follow Mike's suggestion and post the original in just a minute.

I checked and it turns out that this is the original shot, evidently I did not do any PP before posting.

If I would bother to look at my LightRoom history I would understand that the attached is the original, sorry.

I might apply a little Dehaze to clarify the mountains.

Sorry, David, that is the SOOC version. Submitted to show what I started with to determine the best edits.
