One morning during our May trip to Death Valley, I got up at four so I could make it to Zabriskie Point for sunrise. I got there in plenty of time, and was surprised at how many others were there. I took a few blue hour photos, one of which is here. About five minutes before nominal sunrise, the clouds lit up with incredible vivid pink. It was amazingly ephemeral, and you could watch as first one set of clouds and then the next caught fire. And then... nothing. There were too many clouds in the east for the sun to break through. I didn't see the sun until around nine that morning. Still, it was a great time except for the one guy who would run out and set up his tripod in the middle of another's photo.
I like them! The striations in #1 are incredible.

Nicely done, thanks for sharing.
Superb capture. Almost doesn't seem real. And you're spot on, the light and color are quite short-lived.
