Bill, I'm wrong again. It IS a Monarch. I wasn't ready to see one. They have been very rare around here for the past few years. I am so used to seeing Queens that I just failed to look closely at those wing tips.

It is a hard call. Worn specimens harder.

I don't know to much about Lepidoptera. I've only been working with them for 60+ years.
But I think it goes without question that this is a female Danus plexippus.
I'm sure there are a few other knowledgeable folks on UHH that will confirm it.

Check the front wings particularly. (A few strays occur in each.)
As an old K II shooter, I seem to prefer darker photos, but still, very nice.
