These slugs will do dern near anything to scam people. Sadly, some folks fall for them. Glad you were on your toes.

I never give out information over the phone. If you are calling me, you should know everything about me with out asking. If you need my credit card number, social security number, date of birth, my dog's name, what electric company I use for my house or even my address, I don't waste my time....I hang up on 'em.
It's sad that we have to become so vigilant against strangers.
It once was my biggest concern that I wound the film in my camera correctly. Now, I have to look over my shoulder to make sure no one has their hand in my pocket.

It's a good thing I don't have my way. That person would be stripped to their skivvies, covered with honey and tied up left on top on an red ant mound. I would be allowed to photograph their punishment to my heart's content.

I never give my information to those who already have it. If I had a Verizon account, and got the message, I would tell them to look it up, or close the account. No sweat off my nose. They don't pay me to be on there, so I would lose nothing by the closing of the account. Close, and be damned. If I lost my Verizon account, I could have a new Cricket account in five minutes.

I sometimes look at the header information in an email that I suspect, just to see where it came from.
I've found things like the originating email IP is in Romania.
Why would an American company be sending emails via Romania???
Sometimes I search the header info for "http" and see that links do NOT go to the company website.

It's sad that some people fall for this stuff.

Many of them send something like this out to hundreds of thousands of people.
YOU might not have a Verizon account, but many, many will.

DEFINITELY PHISHING AND THEY ARE PISSING ME OFF.

My wife and me got separate emails exactly worded like yours but from a different company, SunTrust which we immediately deleted.

Obviously, these jerks are using different US companies and sending them en mass.

If they send say 100K and 0.1% fell for it, they still can work on 100. Not a bad net with just one click of the mouse.

TAKE-HOME: Only one word, DELETE!

What annoys me is that I go to work every day to bring home a few pennies. Its honest work but hard and leaves me tired at the end of the day. These scammers have no conscience. They are not earning a decent day's pay. The only thing fitting for each of them is a paddling to the backside. Then, send them home crying to their "mama!"

And those who try to break into databases, like Capital One's.

There's a link in that email. Place your cursor over that link without clicking on it and you should be able to see the URL it actually references (not the URL it SAYS it references).

Too late, I’ve deleted it from my PC
