Methinks that many of you should at least let the reader know what kind (model, ventage, etc.) of camera you are using, otherwise we are left in the never regions of darkness---right?

I do agree that choosing the focus point is not easy on some camera. It could take time. However, I don't want to focus only at the center of the frame. I liked the SLR and not the Rangefinder because I can manually focus at any point on the focusing screen. I don't use the split image either. So If using AF bring me back to focus only 1 point it's not so good.

Surely with a rangefinder camera, it was possible to focus on your subject, and your camera will hold that focus until you turn the ring again. You can then recompose if necessary with your subject remaining in focus, provided it is not moving.

Just for fun, I set up an old D80 of mine & everything Steve described was able to be set on that dear old dinosaur & functions perfectly.

Thanks a million, Steve!

When photographing tiny birds they usually don't fill the frame so recomposing is done with the crop tool.

Didn't realize you were in Ohio Steve. Have purchased both of your Nikon books. Great stuff. Thanks for all your hard work. You have made a big difference in my photography skills and knowledge.

Thanks for the kind words everyone - sorry for the delay in responding, I am in Costa Rica and our wifi went out for a few days.
