I have my Fathers b&w negatives. I would like to scan them. How would I make prints from scanned negatives.

If you can scan them into your computer, as a positive, you can then improve it, with editing then print a photo, either yourself, if you have the where with all, or take a file of it to the local photo shop & they could print it out.
Once digitised, you can do anything with it. Assuming it's a good pic & it scans up ok.

I've scanned two ways so far - once on my scanner directly and once with the negative on a lightbox (actually propped up on my computer screen). Both ways worked. If the negatives are professional quality you might want to do it another way.

And even if it isn't a good pic, when you post process it you can improve it to bring out details the original print didn't get.

When you scan a negative you should have a positive digital file. Print it the same as you would any positive digital file.

Since you haven't scanned yet (from the words in your post)-
The scanner should be capable of scanning negatives,
and one of the scanner options should be for media type.
Select negative and you should get a positive, which you would just print.
Make sure as much dust and finger prints are off of them prior to scanning.

I've never tried to photograph the neg, if it's a blurry pic, it'll always be blurry. But I find to scan at hi res, gives better ability to post process if it's worthy of it. I can't make a blurry pic sharp.
You can clean up marks etc, but not blur.

Some scanners have a light in the lid along with a holder for negatives and slides. It projects the photo onto the scanner bed. You can do the same thing by making a holder with a light behind it and project onto your camera lens. They make devices that fit on the front of your camera or many folks make home-made ones when they have a lot to do.

I recently had this done at a local photo-lab where they scanned the negatives (B&W as well as Color) and sent the files to my computer via email. They were jpegs of course but still were 6.4 mp and quite nice and it gave me an instant set of files to keep as permanent records that I could move to a flash-drive or another form of storage as needed.
And I got the added advantage of being able to order prints from them if I so-desired because some were very good and a surprise after 50 years of forgotten history.
I would highly recommend having them professionally done if you are a novice like myself.

I have digitized hundreds of negatives - both color and black and white - and here's what I have found. The main problem I encountered early on was the dust and particles on the negative. So I bought white gloves to gently wipe the negative and then a Swiffer dust cloth to "dust" the negatives after they are placed in the scanner. Worked well for me.

What scanner do you have? What scanner software do you have?
