Anyone else ever had this problem? An UHH search did not come up with anything but a google search found many, but with no clear solution. I have LR and PS cc-latest update. I have 16 G RAM a fairly new computer. Other wise LR and PS run perfectly. Turning graphic card on or off made no difference.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Yes on many occasions and my configuration is similar to yours. Have to use Ctl/Alt Delete to close PS and start over. I have had that problem since Adobe first introduced Shake Reduction. Anymore I just do a save before using Shake Reduction and wait for Adobe to fix the problem in one of their updates.

In my case changing Image Size will lock up the computer on the third attempt. Don't know if they are related or not.

I get crashes from shake reduction too, so I mostly just don't use it. I'll give it a shot every once in a while to see if it works any better but so far, it's still buggy on my computer. This was not always the case, several iterations of PS ago I had no problem using this feature.

I've been wondering the same thing. While my computer does not crash, it takes forever (as much as 10 minutes) to finish the process. I have a new pc (home built) with a Core i7 9700k (8 cores), 16GB of ram and a SSD. I also have a GTX1060 video card with 6GB of memory.

Looking at processes during the shake reduction, all the cpu cores are maxed out, but the memory is far from its limit. I will try increasing the cache size the next time I try it, but this seems to be illogical since memory does not seem to be the limit. The rendering seems to be the bottleneck to this filter.

I must confess that I have not checked the Adobe forums for the problem and any solutions, perhaps because I use it so infrequently.

My experience is similar to yours, no crashes but it seems like it takes from sun up to sun down to finish. Quite frankly after using it several times I don't feel the final result was worth the effort.

I have never had a crash with two machines. My older one had a SSD, 8 G RAM, and an onboard video card. Sure, processing took thirty or sixty seconds but always went to completion. My new machine is a gamer with a HDD, 16 G RAM and a 4 G video card. Shake reduction now takes about ten seconds.

Defragmenting a SSD supposedly does not matter. Perhaps you have too many temp files. I suspect your hardware is not the culprit but something in your configuration. Perhaps you are not allocating enough space for caching. You probably know already that you can adjust that in preferences.

There are a few suggestions from Adobe staff in the thread.

Disabling the GPU, allowing several seconds between every step I take within Shake Reduction, help get me through a session. And avoiding that box on the lower right labeled "detail" which will almost always trigger a crash.
