Have any of you tried the above and have you had good results? How about the small screen.
I'm looking to upgrade my computer system and this would be in my price range. I'm looking for something that would let me do some post processing. I shoot mostly birds and some outdoor scenes.
Thanks for your help.

My wife had two versions of the "Surface", but she usually used it with a keyboard, so she ended up getting an actual 2-in-1 laptop with a touch-screen as her most recent replacement.

I went from Surface RS to Surface 2 to Pro 4 to Pro 6. All because I needed more memory to run Adobe's products, InDesign in particular.
They are great for traveling, though the small screen slows down production speed it works as well as it's larger cousins.
Just get as much Ram as possible.
I have a 256mb micro SD card in it for extra storage in addition to the 500 mb SSD.

Can it accomodate an external monitor? If so, the small screen issue can be solved.

I am presently trying a Surface Pro 6, 5I, 8 Ram 256 ssd. From Costco because of $799 price, with keyboard and pen, and liberal return policy. I process raw files every day from my twice daily hikes. So far, my Lenovo 15, Yoga 730, 16 ram, 500 ssd is blazingly fast and efficient and my trial Surface stumbles slowly with LR and PS. However, I'm not looking to replace the Yoga, why would I, but with emails, and streaming, and a very nice screen, it might be keep able. My am is to find a lighter, smaller, device that can handle some photo processing (Surface qualifies) and can well provide the other services, all for traveling. I have a Lenovo C930 to arrive tomorrow from Best Buy, that I plan to test against the Surface. Smaller screen, only 4ram, otherwise identical. Same weight, but with only virtual keyboard (Surface keyboard is real, and awesome. I'll keep one, the surface is a very nice computer. To be decided!

Bugs commented on the speed, yes it's slower at processing large files. Not much, but clearly noticed.
Mine has an I7 processor and 8 gig of ram.

It is possible to hook up an external monitor, but I have not tried to. I have not seen any need to. Microsoft has a costly docking station that can also be used.

At 12.3”, the screen is slightly larger than my iPad Air and would not be suitable for serious editing, in my opinion. I have a 15” Surface Book 2 with detachable screen that I use when traveling that is great. At present, we are in Maine and I’m sorting through 500+ photos from an aerial tour on my Surface.

I have owned a Surface Pro 3 for about four years, and it's the worst laptop computer I have ever owned...and I have owned laptops for as long as laptops have been made and used them in my business. If you want specifics, it's hard to know where to start, but the problems included keyboard, touchpad, countless design issues, etc. Once I had a warranty issue, so I took my Surface Pro to one of their stores that have techs. Unless you're lucky enough to live close to one of the few that exist, in addition to the long drive to get there, they kept my machine for two weeks. When I complained about having to keep my laptop for so long, they had the nerve to tell me that they were doing me a "favor" because they weren't charging me for the repair. Microsoft should stick to software, not hardware. BTW, in the past three months, I replaced my Surface Pro with a Dell XPS w/ a 4K onboard monitor, and it's terrific. I have owned numerous Dell laptops and they have been excellent, but be sure to buy the four-year, on site warranty, including US-based phone support. Also, unless you buy a Dell off the shelf, they customize their laptops, so there are lots of options (including software bundles) and you need to pay attention to the details. If you think your purchase through carefully, it will payoff in the long run. Hope this helps...

Hi -

I'm using an old Surface Pro 3 with an i7 processor and 16 gb of ram. I use it as my travel laptop. It's a pretty nice little device. I am able to run Photoshop and Aurora on it without much of a speed hit. You can use an external monitor on it also. Hope that helps.

No Problem, I have mine attached to an external 23in 2K monitor. All you need is the proper cord - mini Display port to HDMI.

I have Surface Pro 6 2 years old with 8 gig ram and the quad I-7 processor with 256 gig SSD. Works great but I use it when I travel because of the fantastic resolution of the screen. I have used other laptops with small SSDs and always use a USB 3 SSD for storage. I have lightroom and photoshop on this but the master catalog is stored on the movable 2 or 3 gig SSD. It does slow down some processing but it's worth it for the resolution.

Problems, none. At home I use a large desk top with a 27" 4K monitor and the surface does not have the graphics power to run that monitor. That's fine, that is not the intended use of the surface.

I've been using a Surface Pro 4 for about two years now. I purchased I7 with 512 SSD and 16 gig of memory. I use it as my travel computer. It is light weight so it's easy to transport. I purchased a mouse and the Pen when I bought it. I can easily transfer my photos of the day to the laptop and edit them with Photoshop while on vacation. The pen allows me to use several tools from Photoshop, i.e. spot healing for one. Once I get home I transfer the photos to my desktop where they are then load up to my website and backed up on a 8T external drive. If you plan to purchase one.... the tip of the day....take one of your kids or grand kids with you. At least when I purchased mine they asked if it was for my granddaughter who was with me at the time, I asked why, the sales person replied, you get 10% off it is for a student. So, take a kid or grand kid with you☺. Good luck with your choice.

I got mine fully loaded with 16 GB ram. The pen, the keyboard and also a foldable Microsoft keyboard and a flat mouse that opens up to better fit in the hand. I love it for travel. At home I connect it to a docking station and a curved 34" Dell monitor as well as USB drives. I decided to start downsizing my computing as I get older and wanted to be more mobile. So hence I use iPad pros, laptops and this 6. I'm very happy with it
