Can anyone tell me how the Canon 24-70 2.8L II on EOS R perform together?

I can't say with hands on for the EOS-R, but the is no difference for this excellent lens with Canon's EF adapter.

I have the 7Dmk II and thought it would be more beneficial to have the 24-70 2.8 II as I could use it on both cameras. I also have the 70-200 2.8 II so the extra reach that I would loose by not getting the 24-105 would not be an issue. I was hoping that the image quality between the 2 lens would be similar. Thank you for responding.

I can tell you that the EOS-R in combination with the Mount adapter EF-EOS R and 24-70 F/4 are excellent together.

I have both lenses, 5D MIII & 7D MII. I tried the mirrorless m50 and the adapter for a week. Image quality was fine, but I did not like the new ergonomics/feel/balance with the m50, so I returned the m50 and purchased a Sony RX10 IV to alleviate carrying all the "stuff". I do not think you will be unhappy with your lenses on the EOS R. I love the Sony.

Good luck,
Mark

The EOS R is full frame, so you will be getting 24 mm -70 mm view with that combination. The 7D II is a crop sensor (1.6) so you are seeing 38 - 112 (aprox.) Otherwise that combination should give you excellent results. I have the EOS RP which I occasionally use my 24-70 f/2.8 (ver. I) with excellent image quality.

I have 8 EF lenses. They all work as well or better on my EOS R then on my 5DIV. That includes my EF 24-70 f/4 L. The capabilities of the R enhance the lenses, not detract from them.

The image quality of both lenses you mentioned (24-70 & 70-200) are both great. The newer 24-105 also is a very nice lens, but you don't need lines on a chart to see the 24-70 is a touch sharper within the three lenses in this discussion. That's a difference reflected in it's price too.

The drawback of these EF lenses on the 7DII is the loss of the wide end where 24mm puts you more in the 38mm field of view on the cropped sensor. The idea of a FF with crop and sharing the lenses is a valid approach. If looking for 'wide' for L lenses you could share between the two camera types, look too at the 16-35 f/4L IS. This lens is comparable with the 24-105L II in terms of image quality. You can also save some money with the EF 24-105 f/3.5-5.6. This lens is everywhere as sharp as the L model, just not as ruggedly built nor with a constant aperture.

In your last sentence "with a constant aperture", what does mean. Thanks in advance.

A variable aperture is one where the maximum available aperture changes based on the focal length. Take a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 zoom lens that all brands offer and most of us own / have owned. At 70mm, the maximum aperture is f/4.5. But, as you zoom out, the maximum changes down to f/5.6 at 300mm. A constant aperture is a lens that maintains that same maximum aperture at all focal lengths across the zoom range. So the EF 24-105 f/4L IS II is f/4 at 24mm through all focal lengths to 105mm.

You can use any aperture smaller than the maximum on both types of lens, such as f/11 at 300mm and f/11 at 105mm. The 'constant' applies to what maximum is available across the focal length range of the lens.

The 24-70 heavy but luckily the EOS R’s battery will be dead before you get too tired!

The EOS R & RP batteries are rated for 200 shots, however I have been getting 350 shots easy and that's with taking video along with 350 shots.

Hardly. I would guess that you are just quoting ill-informed comments made by others and have not actually used an R yourself. The RP and the R use different batteries and battery life can be a bit of an issue for the RP, especially if the camera is not set up to conserve battery usage. Same as most any digital camera. The RP uses the LP-E17 battery rated at 1040 mAh while the R uses the much bigger LP-E6N rated at 1865 mAh. I also use a Power 2000 LP-E6 rated at 2200 mAh in my R. Battery life has not been an issue with my R, but, like most photographers who plan on shooting for extended periods, I carry a spare. Takes seconds to swap it, though I rarely have to. It is important to set up both the R and RP so as to not waste battery reserves, but, once you do battery life is not much of an issue with the R. Never used an RP with it's smaller battery, but even there swapping a battery occasionally is hardly a cause for concern.
