Can anyone recommend a free, relatively easy photo processing program. I’ve subscribed to PS and LR but can’t use them because they’re too difficult for me.

Thanks, Patti

Look into the software that came with your camera or can be downloaded for free from the manufacturer's website. That software will be free, specific to your camera type. But ... probably not any easier to learn and use. Before you give up on Adobe, ask yourself how much training have you taken? Adobe has numerous free video training on their site. You can find even more free videos on u-tube that cover every aspect of both software from the most general getting started to the most obscure edit actions. You might also step back from trying to learn both and focus only on LR that is the easier of the two packages and is intended for all general purpose editing. Investing the time to learn how and why to use any image editing software has a basic requirement of your time and effort to learn. Free won't make even the most basic software easy to use.

~Pixlr...I use this most of the time when I don't need the NIK or ON1 filters on my Adobe Elements 14.
Very intuitive and lots of guidance if you want! Lots of fun things you can do for effect along with straight forward processing. And, best of all - FREE!!

As CHG_CANON said: "Investing the time to learn how and why to use any image editing software has a basic requirement of your time and effort to learn." VERY TRUE!!

At one time I used software called "Picture It!".

I discontinued using it because it automated too many things, but that may be just what you want.
I hear that it was obtained by Microsoft, but I don't know anything about that.

Faststone is the easiest free program that will do most of what you need if you don't want to get too deep into processing. I still use it for some things.

I second that. Faststone does the basics very well. Easy to learn.

I will third that. Faststone Image Viewer is not only a viewer but has many editing functions. Easy to use and effective editing. I like the program very much. Go for Faststone!

I'll 4th that for Faststone. However, as someone who also has difficulty learning photoediting I've found Affinity Photo even easier to learn than Faststone. It's not free but inexpensive at a one time fee of $50 which includes future updates, and more capable than Faststone. Either or both are worth a try.

Which camera do you have? If you have Nikon, Capture NX-D or View NX-i would be good. They're free downloads from their websites.

The good thing about using the camera manufacturer's software is that you can have lens correction profiles. The profile can automatically correct barrel and pincushion distortion. Chromatic aberration can also be corrected.

Patti ---

Look at Adobe Photoshop Express, and you'll look no further! It's free - and by far the easiest to use software there is for photo processing. It doesn't do layers and such as that, but it is possible to do a lot - very simply. It's quick, and not hardware intensive. Again, try it and you won't want to use anything else. I'm using ON1 2019.5 and a couple of others, but my wife accomplishes a lot with Adobe Photoshop Express!

I use PhotoScapeX and it works very well for me, and it supports processing the Canon Raw files, except CR3. It can be used accurately with 3 or 4 clicks or you can REALLY get into serious editing. Be sure to select Mac/or Windows. Get the free version first (it never expires), and you can always upgrade. Also, please do yourself a favor and watch the following youtube video both to see if you would be interested and for training if you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWC-SAuYOzw&t=325s Instruction and download info http://x.photoscape.org/. May you always enjoy your photo journey!

What kind of camera are you using?
Most provide free software via CD or download for the make of camera.
For example I have a Nikon so I use Capture NXD or View NXI. both work ok but I still prefer the old
Capture NX2.

IMO Lightroom is more daunting than it looks. There are some very good tutorials and vidoes on Youtube.

It also recognizes the D-Lighting feature that Nikon has the comes in very handy at times.

As someone else mentioned, Faststone is great. However, it doesn't preclude you learning a few basics on photo processing. Whatever route you choose, check back here and ask for a basic work flow using the chosen product. That will get you started and you will expand your knowledge as you gain experience.
