People here too frequently leave that part out when crop factor is mentioned.

If it’s important for you to know what lens it would be similar to if you were using a full-frame camera, then fine. If you’ve never used a 35mm film camera or a “full-frame” camera then this info is pretty irrelevant unless you’re thinking of moving to a different format soon. Otherwise, you don’t need to worry about “what the Joneses are up to”

Just look through your lens and frame the photo with what you have.

'Crop factor' involves so much more than just comparing "FF" to "APS-C".
I have an old Pentax "Super Program" film camera, a Pentax "KP" camera, and a Pentax "Q-7" camera.

I happen to know that the "Q-7" has a crop factor of 4.65, so the sensor on it is 1/3rd the dimensions of the sensor on the "KP", information that more useful than anything else. People get confused, but that is just because they don't understand. Once you know the crop-factor of any two cameras, you can use that information in all kinds of ways - all kinds of comparisons. It is not "nonsense" - just misunderstood.

Not heard of anyone using the term full size.
There are digital formats larger than the so-called full-frame.
Guess those would be fuller sized.

I shoot most of my jobs with my full-frame Nikon D810.
When I go out with my Fuji XE-2, (same size sensor as your D3300) I never think about crop factor.
I just shoot what I see through the finder. What I see is what I get, even with my adapted lenses.

Well, you got me! Yes I do realize there are larger formats of Cameras, although as I was attempting to convey was concerning only DSLR Cameras, comparison between a Full Frame and a Crop-Sensor Frame DSLR Camera.
The F.O.V. with matching lens (ex.50mm) between a full frame and a crop-sensor camera is Different. On a F.F. camera, 50mm is 50mm. On a Crop-sensor a 50mm with a crop-factor of 1.5 x 50mm = 75mm F.O.V. or some say it is A.O.V., I prefer F.O.V., what I am acually seeing thru the Viewfinder. Does this seem accurate to you?

I thought the body of my post explained what I was getting at. I carry the number “3” around in my head and use it when switching between my “KP” and my “Q-7” as well as knowing that the “KP” requires a wider focal length than the “Super Program” does.

It works. Good for you. Do realize you put it on page 20 of a zombie thread ? The flowers on its grave don’t need watering or fertilizer.

You might have a useful idea to share. You can waste it in zombieland or express it in a fresh new thread. Whichever way looks better to you.

I’m not criticizing your idea or formula or whatever it is. If you think other users need it, then share it where it stands on its own, or bury it right here. Your call.

Once a thread is resurrected, it is alive and on page 1. I don’t see any functional difference between making a comment on a thread started today or making the same comment {if appropriate} on a thread that had ‘died’ before I ever joined here.

Forget I ever mentioned it. I will.
