I find red a difficult colour with digital cameras. I try lowering the exposure a bit from the metered setting. For example, if the flower is in full sun, I'll set the exposure compensation down about 2/3. That gives me a bit more detail in the red.

Try not to take anything red in the sun, if possible create a shadow over the subject using yourself or wait for the sun to cloud over.

I have that setup em1mk2 and the 12-40f2.8 and I do rather well with -1/2 to -1 full stop under and NEVER shoot in full sun red ether washes out or blocks up

As others have mentioned, reducing overall exposure will help. Also, consider increasing saturation in camera. Try the "vivid" shooting mode. Also saturation can be adjusted in the "wrench" settings. I also have the E-M1 but have never had a problem with red. Have you updated to the latest firmware? Camera Updater software is free from Oly for firmware updating. I hope this helps.

The advice above is worthwhile but a few other things can be considered. It is very helpful to shoot raw as you can experiment. Each camera has several "profiles" for in camera processing. My Nikon D7200 has Neutral and Flat profiles the may be helpful. Theses profiles can be changed in Capture NX-D if you have a raw file. In post processing it may be helpful to slightly desaturate red. For Olympus cameras, Olympus WorkSpace is quite good for experimenting with camera settings. The Natural picture mode is likely the best place to start.

Use spot metering, consider the tonality of the red color. A dark red is not the same as a bright red and metering is different. Most red colors have a middle tonality.
I favor flowers in shade although at times I use a brisk fill-in flash at low intensity to fill the shadows and give a slight pop to the flowers. The combination you have should do very well.

Natural or Neutral color style (picture style)

Custom or Manual White Balance in reference to a decent white balance tool

Raw capture with post-processing in a decent software tool on a calibrated and profiled monitor

Beautiful reds! Nice, deep saturation. To your eye, does look like the original rose?
