A recent posting on this subject has inspired me to create a set of my own photographs of Zaanse Shans, from tours there in 1980 and 2010.
First, from the 1980 visit:

I hope I haven’t bored everyone to death, but there is a lot to see there. I recommend a visit. (I apologize for the photos that are not erect--I don't know how to fix it here, because they are correct in Flickr.)
Very nice. Thank you for sharing your photos.

You do a great tour, David!
Great photo essay. Teamed with good descriptive text it would make an outstanding article in a magazine or guide book.
Well, there's a museum there, too, and I had a few photos from inside it, but I felt the set was probably too long as it was and didn't include them. The Flickr Albums do have more photos, but I chose the ones I felt best covered the subject.
Thanks for the nice comments. robertjeri, that is an interesting suggestion.
Interesting place. Thanks for the photos.
I’m amazed by the wooden gears! The hours of labor expended in producing those huge gear sets must be in the thousands! Wonderfully interesting images, David!

Great set David!
We did not have time to walk into the village as you did.
Thx for sharing!
Great series, David, thanks for the tour.
Wonderful set David - thanks for the tour!
Thank you for showing me ,finally, the inner-workings of a Dutch Mill. I cannot imagine how much weight these things have and being supported above a home beneath them....the concept is unimaginable to a structural engineer. And all of the work in fabricating those gear wheel from wood is endless.
Wow what a incredible trip you must have had. Thanks again sir.

The 1980 tour was by coach, and the 2010 was at the end of a long river cruise, from Amsterdam.
Blair, some of those windmills are still functional and they make product using them.
