Among the first plants to grow up in an area after a fire - the heat quickens the seeds and cracks their cases which are so tough they can last for years or decades in the ground waiting for the heat of fire to trigger germination.
Boy have we seen a lot of it around here. Where was this taken?
This was near the creek bottom but the fire was so hot and wind driven that even the wet places and many Aspen burned. SW Montana.
