Thank you for the opportunity to start off today’s topic: Water, stop it!
This has been a dilemma for me as I thought about which way to take this challenge, as well as tomorrow’s challenge (Water, move it!). The more I contemplated these two challenges, the more I kept asking the question “What does stop it really mean?”
I got slow water. That’s stopping it, but what about water in motion when you stop it by capturing it with a photograph? When the water drop splashes up and we photograph it, haven’t we stopped it at a moment in time. And then the real question is whether or not the rain drop falls at all if no one is there to see it fall (my Son and I often argue about the noise of a tree falling in the woods if no one is there to hear it). So, I am going with the former for the ‘stop it’ challenge. ANY capture of water is stopping it. How quickly or slowly we stop it is the topic of today’s challenge. Please feel free to challenge this assertion as you post your pictures!
The water wizards say over cast and indirect light are best for water shots, but sometimes reflections and bright lights are good, too. I look forward to your pictures and interpretations.

Here are my stop it's

Here I used a 500W work light that was about a foot away, in order to stop this I used my nifty fifty at 1.8, 400 ISO, and 1/200th of a sec

these are all around the same timing, I first used 1/200th of a sec but then realized I needed to go up to 1/500th of a sec just to stop the water splashes, here I was using my 18-55 at 3.5.

yes, the reason for the bright light is so I can use a fast enough shutter speed to stop this, if I didn't have any light I would've been only able to shoot at around 1/30th of a second and in that amount of time a lot would've gone on and you it wouldn't be stopped. Have fun can't wait to see

I have not stopped a great deal of water, but here is a little. I felt I needed to show you what the water did to stop lots of folks after Katrina. We are again under threat, so if you don't hear from me, we will be without power for a period of days/weeks, who knows. The worst part is the heat. Keep us in your prayers.
