On Friday afternoon I was lucky enough to spot this pied billed grebe with two of her youngsters riding on her back. It seems quite late in the season for her to have such young ones so I do hope they make it to adulthood.

Neither did I - I thought it was only loons that did it. We have had a pied billed grebe on the pond in front of our house since we moved in in 2011 and this is the first time I have seen it so naturally now I go and take photos every day and am happy to say that all four babies (as of yesterday) are growing bigger and stronger.

Thanks - the babies are now late teenagers and all six so far have survived so she is a really good Mum.
