The same reason some folks wear a baseball cap with the brim sideways- too keep the sun out of their EAR!😁😉👍

I use a lens hood about 99% of the time if for no other reason than to protect my lenses from bumps and scraps. When on in the reversed or storage position it just gets in the way of my zoom or focus rings. This is why I don't understand leaving it in the storage position when shooting but I have seen it done many times in videos by professionals.
