A Purple Finch looks very much like a House Finch; gray/brownish and the males have red heads and breasts.
Called a House Sparrow but actually a member of the weaver finch family. Ubiquitous is too kind a word. They noisy, dirty and take nesting sites from native species. If pigeons are rats with feathers House Sparrows are mice with feathers
